Sharks 5, Blackhawks 4, OT

Joe Thornton finds his teammates when they have the best angle to shoot and gives them the puck at the split second they're open.

He's been doing it since joining the San Jose Sharks nearly four months ago. It's a reason they're back in the Western Conference playoff picture.

Thornton got the puck to Tom Preissing, who scored the winner 1:24 into overtime Sunday night with a slapper from the high slot as the Sharks beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4.

Cheechoo scores 45th as Sharks beat Wild

Jonathan Cheechoo scored two goals,
including his team-record 45th of the season, to help the surging Sharks beat the Wild 5-1.

Blue Jackets tie franchise wins record

Rick Nash scored two goals and the Columbus Blue Jackets tied the franchise record for wins by beating the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Columbus won its third in a row, and at 29-40-3 matched the 2002-2003 team's victory total (29-42-8-3).

Mark Hartigan broke a scoring drought with his second goal, and Manny Malhotra added an empty-netter to stretch his goal streak to three games. David Vyborny had two assists.

Steve Bernier had the goal for San Jose.

Blue Jackets 4, Sharks 1

The Columbus Blue Jackets aren't playing for a playoff spot. They want one next year, though.

Rick Nash scored two goals and the Blue Jackets tied the franchise record for wins by beating the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Tuesday night.

"It's a lot easier to come, show up and go through the motions but we're playing for something," Nash said. "It was a slow start this year but we're trying to build a lot of momentum right now and gain some chemistry for the start of next season.
